Our First Month of Compassionate Disability Support in Launceston

As we celebrate the completion of our first month at Unique Needs, we’re proud to reflect on launching one of Launceston’s most client‑focused NDIS support services. Starting a new disability support business is always challenging, but our passion for genuine, compassionate care has made every milestone rewarding.

Putting Clients First: Personalized NDIS Support

Over the past four weeks, we’ve had the privilege of supporting individuals and families across northern Tasmania. Every person has a unique story—and that’s why we’re named Unique Needs:

  • Daily living assistance tailored to each client’s abilities

  • Community access programs to boost confidence and independence

  • Respite care designed to give families a well‑deserved break

Seeing clients achieve small goals—whether it’s attending a community event or mastering a new skill—reinforces our mission: personalized disability support that celebrates individuality.

Together, Adam and Kellie continually refine processes—ensuring NDIS self‑managed and plan‑managed clients receive top‑quality care.

Overcoming Challenges & Ensuring NDIS Compliance

Launching in the disability sector involves navigating:

  1. NDIS guidelines and reporting

  2. Administrative set‑up (rosters, record‑keeping, invoicing)

  3. Building a local network of families and allied health professionals

Our biggest lesson? Transparent communication. We keep families informed every step of the way and welcome feedback to improve our workflows.

Looking Ahead: Growth & Community Connection

Over the next months, we’ll:

  1. Expand community outings—partnering with local venues for meaningful activities

  2. Enhance caregiver training—upskilling our team in best‑practice disability support

We’re also committed to sharing resources on our Services page and inviting you to join our community events calendar.

MAN WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY COMES OUT by Dave Hingsburger

When Support Workers Overstep: The Hidden Harm of Blurred Boundaries At Unique Needs, we believe in building meaningful, respectful relationships with the people we support. But it’s equally important to understand our role and the boundaries that come with it. We recently came across a powerful video that speaks directly to an issue that’s not often talked about — support workers unintentionally crossing professional boundaries by framing themselves as friends, only to later leave participants heartbroken and confused when the support ends. This video is a raw and honest reflection on how this behavior, while often well-meaning, can cause lasting emotional harm. We’re sharing this because it’s a critical reminder: being kind, consistent, and caring is essential — but so is maintaining a professional, transparent relationship. Our role is to empower and support, not to create emotional dependency. Take a moment to watch the video and reflect. This is a conversation the sector need...
